Tigers killed COLOMBO, Sept 25 (AFP) Government troops killed 13 Tamil Tiger guerrillas in scattered skirmishes in north-eastern Sri Lanka, the military said today. A military statement said troops engaged a group of rebels of the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) near Mankulam today, killing five of them. Five more guerrillas were killed yesterday in a confrontation with the troops at Killinochchi and the others killed elsewhere. Ex-CMs pleas NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (PTI) The Supreme Court today dismissed the petitions of former Bihar Chief Ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra and seven others challenging the issuance of non-bailable warrants by a special court at Patna and asked them to surrender before the special court on October 28. A three-Judge Bench comprising Justice Mr M.K. Mukherjee, Justice Mr S.P. Kurdukar and Justice Mr K.T. Thomas stayed the arrest of the fodder scam accused till October 28 in view of the closure of the special court for the Durga Puja and Devali holidays. New GOC-in-C NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (PTI) Lt-Gen S. Padmanabhan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, was today appointed General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command. He will replace Lt-Gen H.M. Khanna who has in turn been appointed GOC-in-C Northern Command, an Army spokesman said. AIDS victim NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today deferred till October 6 the decision on the deportation of a Ugandan national who is said to be a full-blown AIDS victim and a detainee under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act as the Ugandan High Commission did not inform its stand on the courts directions. A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Mr Justice K.S. Gupta deferred the hearing after it was informed that the Ugandan Government had not intimated its decision on the direction that certain high officials of the Ugandan High Commission here should stand surety as a pre-condition for the deportation of the detainee, Dorothy. Dropsy probe NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (PTI) The Delhi High Court today pulled up the CBI for its "tardy progress" in investigating the source of adulteration of mustard oil consumption of which resulted in over 60 dropsy deaths in the Capital recently. "I am sorry to observe the CBI is doing a very tardy investigation", Mr Justice D.K. Jain said while declining bail to a leading mustard oil supplier and manufacturer Kamal Aggarwal, arrested by the police on August 28, in an adulteration case. |
