Eight militants, one jawan killed
SRINAGAR, Dec 26 (PTI) — Eight militants and a security personnel were killed while three extremist hideouts destroyed in continuing militancy-related violence in Jammu and Kashmir since last night.

Militants attacked security pickets and camps at half-a-dozen places in the valley during the period, an official spokesman said here today.

Two militants each were killed in two separate encounters with security forces at Dofli-Bafliaz and Surnkote villages in Poonch district of the Jammu region yesterday, he said.

All the four militants were identified as foreign nationals holding top ranks in their respective outfits, the spokesman said, adding that three AK rifles, a rocket-propelled gun with four rockets, one pistol, four grenades and some ammunition were seized from the killed.

He said two militants and a security jawan were killed in a fierce encounter between ultras and forces at Lamberi village in Rajouri district last evening.

Another militant, who sustained injuries and was taken into custody, is being provided with medical aid, he said.

He said three AK rifles, one pistol, six grenades, a binocular and a wireless set were recovered from the site.

One militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Dodikote in Kupwara district last evening and a rifle, two hand grenades and a wireless set were seized from him, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the bullet-riddled body of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, a surrendered ultra who was kidnapped and killed by militants, was found from Panwah-Duroo yesterday.

He said three children were injured at Ishamander village of Pulwama district when an explosive device they were fiddling with went off.

Militants attacked security pickets and camps at Bohri Kadal in Srinagar, Naidkahai and Kachua-Mugam in Baramulla district, Chandigam and Chitha in Kupwara district and at a bus stand in Anantnag district, the spokesman said.

He said security forces smashed three militant hide-outs in Kupwara, Pulwama and Baramulla districts and recovered two AK rifles, a pistol, five grenades, a wireless set and some ammunition.
