ABOHAR
Theft:
A theft was committed on Wednesday at a petrol pump located opposite the office of the DSP here. Thieves took away some cash.
Camp:
Students of Government Senior Secondary School for Girls have removed garbage deposited outside their school as a part of an NSS camp.
Medical camp:
As many as 276 children were examined by a team of doctors at a free medical check-up camp organised by a local branch of the Mahila Dakshta Samiti at Primary School in Pucca Seed Farm.
Elected:
Mr Ramesh Bajaj, President, Punjab state (south unit ) of the Bharat Vikas Parishad has been elected President of the local Arorbans Sabha.
Woollen clothes distributed:
The Fellows Club distributed woollen clothes among 60 students of Government High School, Gidderanwali village, on Wednesday. Sarpanches of Jhorarkhera and Pattisadiq villages and members of village panchayats also distributed pullovers, shoes and socks among 40 students at Jhorarkhera village on the same day.

AMRITSAR
Elected:
Mr Kanwaljit Singh and Mr Sumeet Singh have been elected President and Secretary, respectively, of the Northern Railway Union.
Charitable dispensary:
The Punjab Pradesh Dalit Council has opened a free dispensary in memory of Karnail Singh Marhi in the local Indira Colony.
Machines distributed: The wife of the Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Parminder Kaur, on Friday distributed sewing machines among 15 widows, and young girls belonging to poor families of the district. The function was organised here in memory of Pushpawati Bhatia by residents of the Rattan Chand Road Welfare Society.

BARNALA
Theft:
Burglars entered the main post office complex on Wednesday and took away cash. However, the burglars failed to open the safe.

BATHINDA
Training camps:
Mr Vipan Kumar, President, Janata Dal, Bathinda unit, said village-level training camps would be held shortly to make workers aware of the party's policies and programmes. In a press release issued here on Friday, he said a membership drive would be launched in villages of this district.
Elected:
Mr R.D. Gupta and Mr Darshan Singh have been elected President and honorary General Secretary, respectively, of the Punjab Chemists Association. The election was held at Ferozepore.
Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of Bathinda district unit of the Punjab Subordinate Service Federation, affiliated to the INTUC: Chairman — Mr Balwant Singh; President — Mr B.R. Shah; General Secretaries — Mr Harwinder Singh Sidhu and Mr Baldev Singh Akalia; Senior Vice-President — Mr Balbir Singh Brar; Vice-Presidents — Mr Sukhdev Singh and Mrs Gorja; and Treasurer — Mr Manphool Singh.
Bar association:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Bar Association, Phul: President — Mr Sat Pal Garg; Vice-President — Mr Surinder Pal Sharma; General Secretary — Mr Charanjit Singh; and Cashier — Mr K.K. Mittal.
Dead:
Kulwant Singh Chohan, a son of the famous freedom fighter Mohinder Singh Onkar, died here on Thursday. Mr Jagjit Singh, President, International Sikh Youth Organisation, Punjab, said Kulwant Singh was a pioneer in the transportation sector in Calcutta.
AIDS seminar:
The local Lions Club (Heritage) organised a seminar on AIDS in association with the State Bank of Patiala. Mr H. L. Bansal, state awardee, delivered a lecture on AIDS.

GURDASPUR
Seven arrested:
As many as seven persons were arrested by the police on Thursday following a clash between two parties outside the court on Wednesday. A case has been registered by the police.

JALANDHAR
Khadi exhibition:
The Khadi and Village Industry Commission, Government of India, organised a state-level Khadi Gramudyog exhibition here. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr S.S. Machchal, Deputy C.E.O. (north zone), DVIC, New Delhi, here on Friday. In this exhibition 34 stalls of khadi and 20 village industries stalls have been set up.

KHARAR
Medical camp:
As many as 300 patients were examined at a free medical check-up camp organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in connection with the birthday celebrations of the Prime Minister here on Friday.

MANSA
Free camp:
The Kiwanis Club will organise a free heart check-up camp on Sunday at Mauran Wali dharamshala from 10 a.m. according to Mr K.K. Goyal, President of the club.

PHAGWARA
Burglary:
Thieves entered the farm house of Ratan Singh of Kotrani village on Thursday and took away cash and some households.

PATIALA
Competition:
The local Ram Kali Devi Welfare Seva Society for the Handicapped organised a painting competition on Friday in which 200 children participated. Mr P.S. Chhabra, Deputy Secretary, Punjab School Physical Education Development Committee, Chandigarh, donated Rs 11,000 to the society and Mr L.N. Aggarwal, Branch Manager, State Bank of Patiala, Treasury branch, donated items worth Rs 5,100, according to the society.

Awarded: The eighth sammelan of the Akhil Bhartiya Jyotish Manch concluded at Jalandhar recently wherein awards for outstanding achievements in various fields of astrology, vastu shastra, mantra, tantra shastra were conferred by Mr Mohan Lal, Punjab Forest Minister. BHIWANI
Traffic blocked:
Villagers of Bigowa in Charkhi Dadri subdivision on Friday blocked traffic on roads leading to Delhi in protest against the recovery of the body of a boy, who had been reported missing for the past two days. The matter was reported to the police.
Krishak club:
In order to create awareness among the people of rural areas, the first Krishak Club has been established at Bhakhra village in this district by the Devsar unit of the Punjab National Bank. The Assistant General Manager of Nabard, Mr M.S. Chaudhary was present on the occasion.

PANIPAT
Blood donation camp:
The Punjab National Bank and the Rotary Club organised a blood donation camp here on Thursday where 41 persons donated blood. The camp was inaugurated by Dr G.K. Thukral, Governor of the club.
Funds for roads:
The Haryana Government will spend Rs 150 crore on the construction and repair of roads in the state during this financial year. The Development and Panchayat Minister, Haryana, said this while addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone of a community development centre at Dharamgarh village on Thursday.

Workshop:
A workshop on "solid waste management" was jointly organised here on Friday by the State Council for Science, Technology and Environment and the State Pollution Control Board. During the workshop, discussions were held to combat the adverse effects of plastic bags on health and environment.

Cases settled:
As many as 79 of the 141 cases were settled at the subdivision-level "Prashashan Janta Ke Dwar Shiver" held at Jukhala on Thursday.
