NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday held that in the cases where the death sentence has been upheld by the apex court, the death convict will have a right that his petition seeking review of the verdict upholding death sentence will be heard by the three judges bench in an open court and he will be accorded half-an-hour hearing.

Virbhadra graft case: CBI files status report
New Delhi, September 1
The CBI today filed its final status report in the Delhi High Court on its probe into allegations of graft, money laundering and forgery cases against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, during his earlier tenure as CM and Union Minister. The next hearing in the case is on September 10.

The Punjab police had recently arrested Baljit Singh Daduwal, a preacher-turned-head of a sect near Bathinda, under those FIRs in which they had withdrawn the most serious charges. The police had also recommended cancellation of certain IPC Sections in the FIR to the courts concerned.

Punjab Govt to excavate, sell sand at pithead
Chandigarh, September 1
The Punjab Government has found a novel way to bring down the ever-increasing prices of sand and gravel. The government will now excavate sand and aggregate (mixture of sand and bajri) from riverbed quarries and sell these minor minerals at the pithead on its own.
