Saharanpur riots report: Committee questions BJP's role
LUCKNOW: A five-member committee headed by UP Minister Shivpal Yadav, which probed the communal violence in Saharanpur that left three persons dead, has blamed administrative lapses for the incident and questioned the role of the BJP.

Two BSF men killed in J-K militant attack
Srinagar/Pulwama, August 16
Two BSF personnel were killed and four others injured as militants ambushed their vehicle near the Indian Air Force’s Awantipora airbase today. The attack, fourth in south Kashmir within a week, took place at Koil village of Pulwama district, 35 km from Srinagar, when a lone Border Security Force (BSF) vehicle guarding the airbase was passing through the area at 2.40 pm. The vehicle was attacked barely a kilometre from the highly secured airbase, which is guarded by two battalions of the BSF.

3 Indians abducted by Taliban rescued
Kabul, August 16
Three Indian engineers, abducted by the Taliban, have been rescued in a special military operation in eastern Logar province while they were being  taken to Pakistan, Afghanistan’s intelligence agency announced today.

Air India flight’s tyre bursts while landing
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 16
The rear tyre of an Air India flight from Male today burst while landing at the Trivandrum International Airport but the passengers and crew escaped unhurt. Airport acting director Shibu Rebort said the tyre on the right side of Airbus-320 burst while landing but it did not cause spark or any damage to the aircraft.

UK: Indian-origin people found in ship container 
London, August 16
A man was found dead while several people from the Indian sub-continent, including at least seven children, were hospitalised after they were found inside a shipping container at a British port today. Some reports said they were believed to be of Indian-origin, possibly from Punjab. They were inside the container for at least 12 hours aboard a P&O commercial ferry. A homicide investigation has been launched after a man was found dead among the 35 stowaways discovered at Tilbury Docks in Essex.
