Jind, August 16
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s cousin and rebel Congress leader Chaudhary Birender Singh joined the BJP in the presence of party chief Amit Shah during a rally in Jind on Saturday.

A large number of Birender’s supporters were present at the rally raising slogans in favour of their leader. “I request Amit Shah and other BJP leaders to allow me to bring as many Congress leaders into the BJP fold as possible before the Assembly elections. Many senior Congress leaders want to join other parties. All they want is proper respect,” said Birender, who was suspended from the Congress on Thursday.

Birender claimed that a sitting Congress MLA and Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS), six former ministers, six former MLAs and some Jat leaders of Haryana have also joined the BJP along with him.

“Nearly 17,000 disgruntled leaders from various parties, NGOs, social and youth organisations have joined the BJP and I have a record of each one,” claimed Birender. On his part, Shah told the new entrants to the party that the BJP would give them all due respect and treat them like brothers.
