Govt moots 100% FDI in defence
26% cap to go, but with riders; will facilitate Indian manufacturing in foreign-made equipment
New Delhi, May 30
The newly elected BJP-led government today formally proposed up to 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the defence manufacturing sector. At present, there is a 26 per cent cap on FDI in defence. On a case-to-case basis, it can go up to 100 per cent but with strict riders.

Gujarat, MP won’t include Modi’s life in school books
New Delhi, May 30
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today opposed the decision of the Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh governments to include a chapter on his life and achievements in school textbooks. A day after news reports surfaced over the possible move, Modi said he firmly believed that the life story of living individuals should not be included as part of the school curriculum.

37 Pakistani prisoners freed
New Delhi, May 30
India today released 37 Pakistani prisoners, including 32 fishermen and five two civilians, five days after Pakistan released 151 Indian prisoners. The prisoners, lodged in jails across the country, were handed over to the Pakistani authorities at the Wagah border, official sources said.

Ex-IB chief Ajit Doval is new National Security Adviser
New Delhi, May 30
Ajit Doval, former chief of the Intelligence Bureau, was today appointed as the National Security Adviser, the second important position filled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra. Doval (69) retired from the IB in 2005 and is only the second officer from the Indian Police Service to occupy the position.
