Govt drops move to name judge to head snoopgate probe
NEW DELHI: Hot on the heels of a stiff opposition from allies, the government today decided to drop its move to name a judge to head the Commission set up to probe the snooping of a young woman by the Gujarat Police allegedly at the instance of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday said that the Election Commission was empowered to inquire into the allegation of paid news if the expenses for the same are not being reflected in the election return filed by the candidate.

Mother dies to save infants’ honour
Jalandhar, May 4
A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Jalandhar yesterday so that her eight-month-old twins, Noor (daughter) and Dilaawar (son), could live with honour.
In a suicide note, Jaspreet (not her real name) alleged that her father’s sister Davinder Kaur, her husband Gurmej Singh (a Head Constable with the Punjab Police) and their son Amritpal had been blackmailing her using an MMS clip.
