Bills to Centre: MHA to consider Kejriwal’s request

The Home Ministry is likely to consider Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request for withdrawal of a 12-year-old order that makes it mandatory for all Bills to be sent to the Centre before being tabled in the Delhi Assembly.

Delhi CM threatens to quit

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tonight threatened to resign if the state Assembly failed to clear the Jan Lokpal Bill. The Bill is opposed both by the Congress, which lends outside support to the AAP government, as well as the Opposition BJP.

Three-day shutdown in Valley; curbs imposed

Restrictions were imposed and mobile Internet services blocked across the Valley as a three-day shutdown to mark the anniversaries of the hanging of two Kashmiris, including Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru, began in the region today.

EGS teachers call off Bathinda stir

Agitating Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) volunteers called off their agitation this evening after a round of discussions with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. They agreed to the administration’s offer of taking the body of the child who died during their agitation to Bambiha Bhai village in Moga district and perform its last rites tomorrow.

The water-carrying capacity of the Hansi Branch canal -- once the lifeline of Jind — has shrunk by half as the Irrigation Department in Haryana forgot to clean it even once in 12 years. The villages that depend on its water have been forced to exploit the groundwater, resulting in its depletion.
