New Delhi, December 21
Delhi experienced the coldest day of the season today with winds blowing across the national Capital, bringing down the mercury by several notches. Dense fog also engulfed the city.

Mercury also came down three notches below the average at 21 degree Celsius. Weather officials have forecast colder days ahead.

Delhiites may have a wet Sunday as the Met has predicted light rains or thundershowers with partly cloudy sky tomorrow.

Temperature came down by six degrees from normal at 15.9 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded four notches above normal at 12.5 degree Celsius. The humidity level oscillated between 98 per cent and 93 per cent.

Continuing dense fog led to many trains being delayed or cancelled. The air traffic was also affected at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The visibility dropped to less than 600 metres at the airport on Saturday morning.

"Thirty-two trains were delayed; 27 rescheduled; and four passenger trains cancelled due to poor visibility caused by the dense fog," said a Northern Railway spokesman.

"The Northern Railway has also announced cancellation of 53 trains between December 21 and December 30 due to dense fog and the declining visibility," he said.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sunday will see heavy fog again in the morning and evening and the day will be comparatively cold.

The minimum and the maximum temperatures are likely to hover around at 11 degree and 18 degree Celsius respectively, a Met official said.

NSCA president Paramjit Singh Kainth warned that his forum will support only the party which works for the betterment of the SC community. The community will not be swayed by false promises anymore, he said while pointing that Andhra Pradesh is the only state to have converted the SCSP into an Act. At present, the SCSP is only a set of recommendations by the Planning Commission.
