Power Tariff: BJP vows to continue fight
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 14
A delegation of the BJP under the leadership of its Delhi chief Vijay Goel would soon meet the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) for getting registered its opposition if power tariff is hiked further. "As a part of our positive agenda for development and good governance in Delhi, we have been in favour of reducing the power tariff by 30 per cent. This is what we promised in our manifesto also.

“The BJP strongly believes that it is time to go for a CAG audit of the accounts of discoms before allowing them even to move a proposal for any tariff hike," Goel said.

In the past two years there has been 72 per cent hike in the power tariffs in Delhi which itself was unjustified. The BJP had opposed it but the Congress government allowed discoms to have this tariff hike, affecting Delhiites severely.

The people of Delhi gave a befitting reply to the Congress in the recent assembly polls.

As the BJP emerged as the first choice of voters, it is clear that they have approved BJP's demand of 30 per cent reduction in power tariff.

"But it seems the establishment of the day is still insisting on going for yet another tariff hike. The BJP will not accept this move and will oppose it. The party demands that instead of the power tariff hike, there should be roll back of the power tariff."

Goel said, "The residents of Delhi have been tired of the misrule of the Congress. Now when they have rooted out the Congress, the BJP will continue to pursue with its positive agenda for development.

“For the BJP, interests of Delhiites are of utmost importance and the party remains committed to reduction of power tariff in Delhi by 30 per cent."

Vice-principal’s appointment row
DUTA seeks independent probe against Aurobindo College Principal
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, December 14
Alleging serious financial and administrative irregularities in Sri Aurobindo College, the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) today placed before the media certain documents on the matter based on which it demanded a thorough and independent probe by the college governing body against the college Principal, Dr. Hari Om.

DUTA president Nandita Narain said, in an attempt to scuttle any such enquiry, the principal on the eve of his retirement, has unceremoniously sacked the vice-principal, Dr. Meenakshi Gupta, much before her term ended, and replaced by a hand-picked individual, in blatant violation of the long-standing convention of appointment of the vice-principal by rotation according to seniority. Dr. Gupta shared her story of removal from post of vice-principal.

The university teachers' body demanded that the alleged illegal appointment of vice-principal by interview be declared null and void and Dr. Gupta re-instated as vice-principal. The principle of appointment of vice-principal by rotation according to seniority should be continued.

DUTA secretary Prof Harish Khanna argued that the five-member truncated governing body has no right to make major policy changes in governance of the college.

They should wait for the formation of the complete governing body with the nominees of the Delhi Government, in which all proposals for any change should be thoroughly discussed after consulting all stake-holders, he stressed.
