11-yr-old girl found murdered
Chandigarh, December 1
An 11-year-old girl, a student of Class VI, was found strangled to death with her body put in a jute sack and thrown in the jungle area in Sector 52. The victim, Pinki, a resident of Palsora, was missing for the past four days and her family had lodged a missing complaint with the police.

23-year-old girl ends her life
Chandigarh, December 1
A 23-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at the servant quarters in which she was staying in Sector 8. The victim, Laxmi, took the extreme step last night.

3 killed in road accidents
Chandigarh, December 1
Three persons lost their lives in road accidents in the city in the past 24 hours. While a five-year-old boy was crushed to death under a vehicle in Hallo Majra, an 80-year-old man was killed in Sector 17 in an accident. In the third mishap, a woman cyclist was crushed to death.

Jammers inconvenience Chandigarh residents
Chandigarh, December 1
The extended range of jammers installed at each of the 10 examination centres led to major inconvenience to residents of the respective areas throughout the first half of the day. The jammers were installed to ensure proper vigil at the exam centres. However, residents, especially those living next to the exam centres, had to bear with frequent call drops as well as poor connectivity of Internet devices till the exam continued.

Gurpurb celebrated
Chandigarh: Students of Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, celebrated Guru Nanak Dev’s Gurpurb. The three-day-long festivity had an ‘Akhand Path’, which featured shabad kirtan. Around 150 students participated in the kirtan and threw light on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev through many poems and speeches. This was followed by ‘Guru Ka Langar’.

Suicide case: PUTA meeting sought

The Panjab University Teachers’ Union (PUTA) executive member Akshaya Kumar has written to the its president Devinder Singh, asking him to convene a meeting to discuss the alleged role of a teacher of Dr HS Jusge Institute in the suicide case of a student. He said it became the responsibility of PUTA to follow its course of activities. It is unfortunate but we need to play our role, he added.

A fine batting by Jashan Bhangu (91) helped BECC defeat Air Force Club, Patiala, by 76 runs. BECC posted 140 runs in 25 overs after electing to bat first. In reply, Air Force team was bundled out after scoring 64 runs in 15.1 overs. The main wicket taker from BECC side was right arm medium pacer Harry 3 for 12 and leggie Arun Bharti 2 for 7.
