Jagdish Singh BholaPatiala, November 14
Days after it smashed a drug racket involving Arjuna awardee Jagdish Singh, alias Bhola, the Punjab Police has seized drugs worth around Rs 3.25 crore from two businessmen in the state.

An industrialist and an hotelier were arrested for their alleged involvement in the drug racket. Two kg of pseudoephedrine (worth Rs 2 crore) and 250 gms of Ice (worth Rs 1.25 crore) were seized from them.

“We have arrested Jagjit Singh Chahal from Romana Chack village and Maninder Singh Aulakh (alias Bittu Aulakh) from Preet Lari village in Amritsar district,” said Bikramjit Singh Brar, investigating officer.

Factories of Jagjit Singh Chahal (MBP Pharmaceuticals Limited, Baddi; Montek Bio-Pharma Limited, Baddi; and Tulip Formulations, Damtal, near Pathankot) were raided as he had been supplying precursor chemicals to Jagdish Singh.

“Maninder Singh Aulakh had been operating an independent supply chain of precursor chemicals for Bhola. He procured these from the medicine sector and supplied to Bhola,” the SSP said.

Investigation agencies said Bhola was using a sim card procured from Uttar Pradesh at the time of his arrest. He had saved only four numbers in the mobile at that time. Later, his associate Saba was arrested.

“The priority now is to break the supply network, which seems quite organised and spread over many cities,” said an officer. The name of a senior politician from Amritsar region has cropped up during Aulakh’s interrogation. “Aulakh has revealed how he was constantly in touch with senior politicians. The role of a senior politician from Amritsar is under the scanner,’ said a police officer.

Additional DGP (Intelligence) Hardeep Singh Dhillon said the authorities were in touch with various High Commissions over the drug trade racket.

An industrialist & A Hotelier

  • Jagjit Singh Chahal has multiple business interests, including a flourishing tyre-manufacturing unit, in Amritsar. He has a penchant for luxury cars with number 0001
  • Bittu Aulakh is a prominent hotelier and owner of Sanjog Hotel located at Court Road in Amritsar

Bhola wanted to be like Dawood

  • Dismissed DSP Jagdish Singh Bhola wanted to make it big in drug trade like Dawood Ibrahim has done. After being arrested by the NCB in Mumbai in 2008, Bhola was lodged in the Arthur Road Jail there. During his stay in the jail, he came in contact with Abu Salem, estranged former lieutenant of Dawood, and Mustafa Dosa.
  • Due to his contacts, Bhola was able to secure certain facilities in the jail, including outside food, which acted as a causative factor for Salem and Dosa to come close to him. “Bhola showed keen interest in the way in which Dawood operated his drug business,” said cops
