Kulwinder Sandhu/TNS

Moga, November 12
One week after a 26-year old trainee IAS officer Nishant Kumar, hailing from Bihar’s Begu Sarai district, was killed in a road mishap in Moga district, the local police has booked one of his colleagues Ajit Roy on the charges of rash driving. He was also injured in the accident.

Senior Superintendent of Police KJS Dhillon said an FIR under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 had been registered against him at Ajitwal police station. Raj Kumar, driver of the car which met with the accident, had given a statement to the police that while they were coming from Jalandhar, Ajit Roy desired to drive the car. At the time of the mishap, he (Ajit) was driving the car.

SHO Gurpayar Singh, who is investigating the case, said that Ajit was discharged from the hospital two days back. He had gone back to Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie. “After discussing this case with senior officers, we will write to the director of the academy about the registration of a case against him”, he said.

Ajit hails from Bhirha village of Samastipur district (Bihar). He was an IPS officer prior to his selection to the IAS. Efforts to contact him on his mobile phone for a version did not materialise.
