Srinagar, October 5
The Army foiled another infiltration bid in the Keran sector of Kupwara district by killing four militants on Saturday. This is the second such bid foiled by the Army in the past two days, leaving seven militants dead.

The latest attempt was foiled in Fateh Gali, 25 km west of Shalbato, Keran, where one of the biggest counter-infiltration operations against 40 heavily armed militants is on for the past 12 days.

The four militants were killed when troops of 12 Garhwal noticed the movement of suspected militants along the Line of Control (LoC) between Tangdhar and Keran late Friday evening.

The Army said around 11 pm, the troops challenged the militants who opened fire, triggering an encounter.

Two days, two attempts

This is the second infiltration attempt foiled by the Army in the last two days

Six AK rifles, 10 pistols, four UBGL and four disposable rocket launchers have been recovered from the scene

The troops had killed three militants in a similar bid in the Gujjartur area on Friday

The counter-infiltration operation in Shalbato, Keran, entered Day 12 on Saturday.

“In the gunfight that lasted this morning, four terrorists were killed,” said Naresh Vig, spokesperson for Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

“The search operation is still on,” he said.

A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the scene. “The recovery included six AK rifles, 10 pistols, four UBGL, four disposable rocket launchers and six rucksacks containing war-like provisions,” said Vig.

The Army had foiled a similar attempt on Friday in the Gujjartur area of the Keran sector, killing three militants. The Army later handed over the bodies of two militants killed in the Gujjartur area to the local police. After a post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to the local Auqaf for burial.

On Friday, the Army said the body of the third militant was spotted lying just across the LoC along Kilpara Nar.
