9-year-old raped; accused thrashed
Ludhiana, October 3
A tipsy man allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl playing in the Chauwani Mohalla locality here last evening. The incident took place around 7 pm when the man, identified as Kaku (40), a resident of the Daresi area, came home drunk. He coaxed the girl into a room on the pretext of offering her toffees.
Trader shot at in Model Town

A businessman was shot at in Model Town here last night. The victim has been identified as Mahesh
Tandon, who runs an iron business on Gill Road. He was taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital where his condition is stated to be serious. He was shot at on his back and had to be operated upon today.
Undertrial’s relative assaulted in District Courts Complex

It was a free for all at the District Courts Complex during a clash between two groups. A relative of an
undertrial, caught in a triple murder case, was assaulted by the victim's relatives.

Dengue spreads its tentacles, 30 more test positive
Ludhiana, October 3
Dengue is fast spreading its tentacles in the district. Thirty new cases of dengue were reported from different hospitals in the city today. Of these, 21 cases are from Ludhiana district, five cases are from other districts while four cases are from other states.

Minister does some tough talking

Showing his concern about the increasing incidence of drug addiction, Surjit Kumar Jyani, Health and Family Welfare Minister, said he would give one-week time to all the officers of the Health Department to curb drug addiction. He said: "After one week, he will transfer officers in case they are found to be careless while suspend those found involved in the drug menace."

Farmers protest against laying of power line, block Ldh-Chd road

Food samples fail purity test

Ishpreet declared best swimmer

A promising swimmer from the city, Ishpreet Kaur Mann, has been again declared the best swimmer in the North Zone Swimming Competition. The championship was held in Jalandhar from September 25 to 28.
She participated in five events and won gold medals in all of them. Ishpreet won medals in 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle.
