Hospitals to guard against dengue
Jammu, September 9 Both the persons from Samba and another hailing from Old City with the symptoms of the deadly fever had come here to meet their family members. They are admitted at the Government Medical College (GMC). Officials said both of them are stable due to the timely action of the doctors and medical staff. The Health Department has constituted a special team to keep trail of the disease. “Many people go outside the state for work and some may bring pathogen along with them. Identifying and providing assistance to them is a major challenge. We have succeeded in our efforts so far and our awareness campaign has also become an important tool in fighting dengue,” said Director Health, Dr BS Pathania. Owning to the weather conditions, the region is more prone to malaria, which in turn leads to higher detection rate of dengue cases. At the beginning of monsoon, advisories are circulated to establish isolation wards at hospitals and health institutions. Dr Pathania said special teams had also been constituted by the department to create awareness among people. “Detection and timely medical help is the only way to curb the spread of dengue and I am getting regular reports from the field staff engaged in the monitoring process,” he said. Dengue is an acute fever caused by a virus. It occurs in two forms: dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever which becomes severe due to bleeding and sometimes with shock, which could also result in death. Severe and continuous pain in the abdomen, bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums or skin bruises, frequent vomiting with or without blood, excessive thirst, pale cold skin, restlessness, sleepiness and black stool like coal tar are the main symptoms. Bleeding generally takes place three to four days after the fever. It is more dangerous for children. Symptoms of dengue

National Conference will register record win in 2014 poll, claims Rana
Jammu, September 9 “The National Conference has pioneered democracy and strengthened the bonds of amity and brotherhood during the most testing times in the state,” said Rana, while addressing a public meeting at Muttal in Reasi constituency today. He said the NC was all set to register a new record in the Lok Sabha elections. The occasion was marked by the joining of sarpanch Muttal Makhan Lal into the NC along with his colleague sarpanchs and panchs. Rana said the NC had always followed principled and healthy politics. “We have never compromised on our principles,” he said, while reminding the people how the NC preferred to sit in the opposition in 2002 despite being the single largest party with 28 members. He said his party did not believe in power being the ultimate destination of the politics but it treated power as an instrument to serve the people. “The past four years have proved the commitment of the party under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to serve the people of all the three regions,” he said. It had always eschewed the tendencies of populism that had remained the fort of power-hungry parties in the state, he said. Referring to the unfortunate polarisation during the 2008 Amarnath land row agitation and the recent incidents in Kishtwar, Rana said, “The motivation of the perpetrators of such anti-people acts has been to divide the people and derive political benefits out of it. They will never be forgiven for their deceit and duplicity,” he said. He asked the people to remain cautious of the sinister designs of such elements and foil such attempts by maintaining age-old unity and tranquility. “The joining of sagacious political workers into the party fold only reflects their immense faith in the policies and programmes of the National Conference,” Rana maintained. While urging the party workers to gird up their loins for the elections, the provincial president said the NC would be going to the people with the report card of the current tenure of the Chief Minister and the overall contribution of the party in championing the cause of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Welcoming new entrants into the party fold, he said their joining the caravan would strengthen the movement and make the National Conference a force to reckon with. “A strong NC is a key to solving the issues confronting the state,” he added. |

Assurances for rehabilitation not new: Panun Kashmir Jammu, September 9 Addressing a meeting of Panun Kashmir members, president Ashwani Kumar Charangoo said the recent meeting of the “so-called apex committee” to discuss the rehabilitation of Pandits seemed to be a complete “comedy of errors”. With a majority of members who mattered having dissociated themselves from the amalgam, the committee appears to have lost its weight. The reiteration of the issue of enhancing the financial aid for construction of buildings from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh was the main point said by the Chief Minister, he said. “It may be recalled that similar assurances were given in the previous meetings also but nothing came out of it. On the employment package, PK has always maintained that unless the draconian conditions attached to the employment package are removed, the package is equal to exploiting the economic vulnerabilities and miseries of the community youth”, Charangoo added. Virender Rainam, the spokesperson of PK, said the government, instead of strengthening the nationalist constituency in Kashmir, was eager to engage with the state sponsors of terror. The government had ignored a complete series of terrorist acts against the nation and the recent beheading and killing of five Indian soldiers on the border by the Pakistan army. |
