Corporation’s haste goes waste

Thinking that every LPG consumer will be linked with the main portal in Delhi by September 1, 2013, the National Payment Corporation of India had started transferring subsidies on cooking gas cylinders into the bank accounts of the consumers. Legal Literacy Club opens at girls' college
Ludhiana: A legal literacy club was inaugurated at Ramgarhia Girls College on Saturday. SGS Matharoo, District and Session Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Service Authority, was the chief guest. He said it was important to create awareness about the legal services among the youth, especially women, as it enabled them to become law-abiding citizens and also raise voice against injustice.

The Machiwara police has arrested a 25-year-old youth at a naka, near the Garhi Tarkhana bridge and recovered 1-kg opium from his possession. The accused has been identified as Sukhwant Singh, a resident of Lakhmirwala village, Mansa.

The Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, survived a scare against Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Model Town, before romping home victorious 5-3 to clinch the title in the ninth Senior Ludhiana District Baseball Championship being held at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Model Town. Amanjot Kaur and Amandeep Kaur scored two runs each that came handy for the Khalsa College for Women to lift the trophy. Nine teams competed in the women's section.

Newton cagers shine
Ludhiana: An inter-house basketball championship was held at Ryan International School, Dugri. The four houses—Newton, Aryabhatta, Einstein and Raman—competed for the top honours. Einstein House was out of the tournament with the lowest score. Aryabhatta House ended as the second runner-up. In the final, Newton House defeated Raman House. The headmistress congratulated the winning team. — TNS

Kabaddi meet concludes
Mandi Ahmedgarh: Kabaddi and hockey championships of the 59th Ludhiana district schools sports concluded at Kilaraipur and Jarkhar villages today. Sahnewal, Raikot and Kilaraipur kabaddi teams secured the first three positions in the U-19 category and Sahnewal, Kilarapur and Karamsar teams emerged frontier in the U-17 category. In the U-14 category, Samrala, Raikot and Jagraon teams were declared winners. In U-19 hockey, Sahnewal and Karamsar emerged winners and runners-up. — OC
