Contestants adopt different styles for canvassing
Dehradun, August 26 With the issuance of notification for the forthcoming student union election in DAV PG College on August 24, there has been a sudden surge in the campaigning activities of all the groups contesting the polls, scheduled on September 5. The situation is almost the same in other colleges like DBS PG College, MKP College and SGRR College. Contestants are using different styles of canvassing. Some have got their T-shirts painted with the names of their favourite contestants, while some are flaunting the student union flags they are associated with in a bid to catch maximum attention of other students. According to Madhusudhan Joshi, in charge of ABVP administrative affairs in Dehradun, “we are insisting on door-to-door campaigning and as the elections are round the corner, our volunteers are going to far-flung areas also like Chakrata, Kalsi, Doiwala and other places to meet the students and to request for their support.” He also said that the students had become very smart these days and did not believe in hollow promises and would not let their vote go in vain. On other hand, Vikas of Vikas Group, which is the new entrant group in the student union election this year, thinks that the key to winning elections will remain with the new students who will vote for the first time. According
to him, the whole emphasis is on wooing the first-time voters. Swati Negi, who left NSUI after being denied the president's post ticket in the elections of DAV PG College this year, is now contesting as an Independent candidate, seems confident of her win in the forthcoming elections.” Her mode of campaigning every morning is to help the students in their admissions and then ask for their support. Her campaigning team is also using SMS services for campaigning. “After taking the mobile numbers and addresses of the students, our team sends SMS to every student in the evening for garnering the support for my candidature,” she said. It is to be noted that nomination process has began in all the colleges in Dehradun except DAV PG College, where the nomination forms would be available from August 28 till August 30 and the last date for the acceptance of nomination forms will be August 31. |
