Ex-DTO gets bail in forgery case: After spending 13 days in jail, former Bathinda District Transport Officer (DTO) BM Singh on Monday got bail in a cheating and forgery case registered against him at the Civil Lines police station here. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Mahinderpal Pahwa also granted anticipatory bail to Gaganteshwar Singh, an alleged middleman in the case who executed the sale of fancy numbers in connivance with the former DTO and other employees of his office. Three IAS officers get promotions: The Punjab Government has promoted three IAS officers of the 1983 batch, Navreet Singh Kang, Suresh Kumar and Jagpal Singh, in the pay scale of Chief Secretary on the completion of their 30 years in service. Labourer booked for abducting minor: A labourer working at a brick-kiln has been booked on the charges of abducting a teenage girl belonging to Fatehgarh Korotana village in the district. Sources said the complaint was lodged by the 15-year-old victim’s mother. The accused, Johny, allegedly abducted the girl on the pretext of marrying her.

Two arrested for illegal mining: The police on Monday arrested two persons and impounded three vehicles, including two trucks loaded with sand, from Biggarwal village near Sunam. Station House Officer Baljinder Singh Pannu said the arrests were made following a tip-off. Rs 40 lakh seized: The Lehragaga police, led by Station House officer (SHO) Parminder Singh Bath, on Monday seized 100 bags of poppy husk worth Rs 40 lakh from a truck and arrested its driver. The truck was intercepted at a naka near Dera Sirsa on the Lehra-Jakhal road. A case has been registered against the driver, Dalel Singh of Sidhani in Fatehabad district (Haryana). The police said Dalel had brought the contraband by hiding it under bananas from Rajasthan through
Jakhal.
