Conduct surprise checks, docs told
: Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Friday asked Civil Surgeons and Medical Officers to conduct surprise checks in various government hospitals. Mittal said the step was aimed at curbing absenteeism and checking irregularities. The Minister also announced special health camps in various prisons for inmates.

Robbery fear has villagers on toes
: Residents in rural parts of the district have been holding 'theekri pehras' (night vigil) these days following rumours that gangs of robbers were active in villages. While the police is claiming there was no law and order problem and adequate night patrolling policemen had been deputed, the villagers were not leaving anything to chance. "We have been doing so for the past almost a fortnight after rumours that gangs of robbers are striking in villages and robbing residents," said a few villagers in Rajpura.

: Northern Railway Ambala Division Senior Ticket Examiner Jyoti Prasad of Saharanpur has been declared man of the month. He caught passengers who were travelling without ticket. He collected an amount of Rs.9.61 lakh against the target of Rs1 lakh set by the headquarters. To promote sportspersons working with the Railways, the Ambala Division has declared Balinder Singh, office clerk, engineering department, sportsperson of the month for winning a gold medal during the All-India Railway Powerlifting Championship-2013,14 held at Secunderabad.
