Conduct surprise checks, docs told: Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Friday asked Civil Surgeons and Medical Officers to conduct surprise checks in various government hospitals. Mittal said the step was aimed at curbing absenteeism and checking irregularities. The Minister also announced special health camps in various prisons for inmates.

Robbery fear has villagers on toes: Residents in rural parts of the district have been holding 'theekri pehras' (night vigil) these days following rumours that gangs of robbers were active in villages. While the police is claiming there was no law and order problem and adequate night patrolling policemen had been deputed, the villagers were not leaving anything to chance.
