New Delhi, August 7
Delhi Election Office has caught 32 cases of attempt to make forged voter identity (ID) cards in the Seelampur constituency, said Chief Election Officer (CEO) Vijay Dev.

The Election Office has lodged First Information Report (FIR) against the accused at the Seelampur police station. They have been booked under various Sections of the IPC including forgery and fabricating of documents.

They had applied for issuance of voter ID cards on the basis of manipulated Adhar cards. Same Adhar card (with numbers 101260362 and 101303868) were used to forged several other cards by changing the names and photos over them.

"It came to the notice of our staff members that some people have applied with Adhar cards as their residence proof and all cards had same unique number. We immediately cancelled their applications and registered FIR against them. They are expected to be arrested in a day or two," said Dev.

He said that the applications indicate Bangladeshi immigrants behind the fraud, desiring to get Indian citizenship. No specific reason has been known but there may be hands of Bangladeshi immigrants behind it, said Dev.

With only two months left for the Delhi Assembly Elections, Dev said the Election Office keeps receiving complaints of fake voters registered by various political parties against their rivals. Though, the complaints at times are politically motivated, but some are genuine. "We verify each and every complaint, even if it is a political stunt. It helps us to nab some ‘real’ fake names in the voters' list," he said.

Dev said that the election machinery has been set in motion for the forthcoming elections as they are being verified in front of party leaders.

The Election Office is engaged in summary revision which is a significant campaign before the elections for inviting "claims and objections". It started on July 1 and the final roll will be published on September 2.

Member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Santosh Koli, who battled for life since a road accident on June 30, succumbed to her injuries following a cardiac arrest today at a hospital in Gurgaon.

Koli, who was party candidate from the Sundar Nagari Assembly Constituency, remained critical since the accident near the Kaushambi Metro station when a speeding car rammed into the motorcycle on which she was riding pillion leaving her with grievous injuries.

She was rushed to a hospital where her condition remained critical. The information was released by the party through a message on a social networking website which reads: "Santosh is no more. She took her last breath after a heart attack a while ago."

Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who had staged an agitation from Koli's residence against inflated power bills earlier, tweeted: "Santosh passes away. May her soul rest in peace...We all resolve that we will not let her sacrifice go in vain. We have to take her struggle forward."

Santosh represented all admirable qualities of a public spirited RTI activist and was courageous and fearless and would be at the forefront for voicing issues of the poor and was never constrained by her own economically vulnerable background, they said.

In fact, Santosh demonstrated how anyone anywhere can take up activism and be of great support to communities while addressing larger issues of change.

A teenage girl has been apprehended for the gun attack on a 17-year-old girl by two men at her home in the Dakshinpuri area. The police said the accused had asked her boyfriend to kill the victim for being slapped last morning.

Nilofar had sustained a gunshot wound in her neck during the attack about 9 pm yesterday. She was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre and was later shifted to Max Hospital in Saket. Her condition remains critical.

In her statement to the police, Nilofar's mother Shehnaz said that Nilofar was threatened by a friend after a heated argument last morning. Nilofar was returning home with her younger sister when she met the accused girl, who cannot be named as she is a minor.

"They had a heated argument over their friendship. Nilofar had slapped the accused," a police officer said. The accused girl allegedly threatened Nilofar that she would get her killed by her boyfriend Anuwa.

Shehnaz said that she had received a phone call from Anuwa. He complained about Nilofar and threatened her. Nilofar narrated the incident to Shehnaz, when the latter returned home from work around 6.30 pm.

Around 8.30 pm, the accused girl with Anuwa and another man went to Nilofar's house. "Anuwa abused Nilofar and shouted that he would kill her," the officer added.

The second man allegedly slapped Nilofar, while Anuwa whipped out a country-made pistol and opened fire at Nilofar. She sustained a gunshot wound in her neck and collapsed.

Shehnaz identified the accused girl and Anuwa due to which the girl was apprehended. The police are conducting raids to nab the other accused.

4-year programme: DU students give memeo to VC
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 7
As hundreds of students boycotted their classes at Delhi University and participated in a protest rally against the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) and the apparent problems of infrastructure due to it, the North Campus remained under the vigil of the police officers almost the whole day.

The area, starting from outside the Vice-Chancellor's office to the roads ending at Metro station, remained guarded by several battalions of the Delhi Police and other security forces, including the CRPF.

At the end of the protest, jointly organised by different Left students and youth organisations, students submitted a memorandum to the VC urging him to ensure that their grievances are looked into at the earliest.

Protestors said that it has been over two weeks that the new academic session of the university has begun and apparently the ground situation has been such that in most of the colleges there is utter academic chaos.

"The FYUP was pushed forth as a 'student friendly' model but in the first 15 days itself it has turned out to be an anti-student. The issues that have surfaced in the colleges are directly related to this new system, and these problems ca not be solved without remarkable changes such as in basic infrastructure and the faculty strength," said Sujit of the Students Federation of India.

Member of the All India Students' Association Sunny Kumar said students are forced to sit in cramped classrooms, especially for the foundation courses.

"In most of the colleges classes are not being held properly and there is a shortage of teachers. Textbooks prepared by the university's taskforce are still to be available in the college libraries. We have submitted a memorandum to the VC drawing his attention and the administration has assured of looking into the concerns in few days," noted Sunny.
