2 sewage treatment plants being set up in Nawanshahr, Banga

With a view to providing basic civic amenities as well as ensuring zero discharge of contaminated water in the rivers and drains, two sewage treatment plants (STPs) are being set up in Nawanshahr and Banga at a cost of Rs 9.72 crore.

Deputy Commissioner Tanu Kashyap said the work on both of these STPs was going on in full swing. With the construction of an SBL tank, about 40 per cent work on this ambitious project had been completed at Nawanshahr, she added.

About the provision of potable drinking water and sewerage facility to the residents, she said besides the completion of work at STPs in Nawanshahr and Banga, the work for providing water supply to the residents of Rahon and Balachaur would also be initiated soon. Besides, out of the two tubewells to be installed in Rahon, one had already been installed and the material for laying down 13-kilometre-long water supply pipeline has also been provided. Two tubewells would also be installed at Balachaur besides laying down of 6.75-kilometre-long water supply pipeline.

Out of the 75-kilometre sewerage line of Nawanshahr, 37 kilometres has been laid recently, she said, adding that in order to treat the sewage water, a STP with a capacity of treating six million litre water daily was being installed near at a cost of Rs 5.98 crore.
