759 hectares under drip irrigation in district

Nawanshahr,July 15 A special district-level seminar was organised by the District Education Department. It aimed to provide educational and career guidance to the students. Kulwant Singh, District Education Officer(DEO), presided over the seminar.

759 hectares under drip irrigation in district

The Punjab government is working on different projects to increase the level of groundwater. About 759 hectare area in the district is brought under drip irrigation to save groundwater.

Varun Roojam, Deputy Commissioner said 622 farmers had adopted drip irrigation in the last one year. He said the Punjab government was providing financial aid to farmers under various schemes to shift from traditional irrigation to modern techniques of irrigation to save groundwater. He said for this purpose more than Rs 2.32 crore was given to farmers to implement drip irrigation system.

He added that 75 per cent subsidy was being provided to the farmers for drip irrigation projects. Farmers could avail this facility for minimum two kanals and maximum up to 12.5 of acres land. Certificates for electricity connections are issued on priority basis to farmers adopting drip irrigation.

Residents resent security collected by PSPCL

Hoshiarpur, July 15
People across the district are angry over the new policy of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to collect advance security for the power consumption.

Superintending Engineer, PSPCL, Jagmohan Singh said advance security will be assessed as an average bill of last year.

Naveen Jerath, spokesperson of the Aam Adami Party, Punjab, said he would file a public interest litigation in the court to stop this broad day looting by the PSPCL. Activists of Aam Adami party along with residents would stage demonstration against the PSPCL to pressurise it to stop the collection of advance security.

Seminar held to guide students

A special district-level seminar was organised by the District Education Department. It aimed to provide educational and career guidance to the students. Kulwant Singh, District Education Officer(DEO), presided over the seminar.

Various experts guided the students about the different educational and career avenues in different fields including defence services, stressed the need for improving soft skills and personality development for better career in the present era of globalisation. — OC
