Fazilka farmers seek Krishi Vigyan Kendra
Praful Chander Nagpal

Fazilka, June 24
Farmers and horticulturists of the district have demanded setting up of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Fazilka for dissemination of latest information and agriculture techniques.

The Farmers Organisation of Agriculture Development, Fazilka, in a letter to the Chief Minister and Union Agriculture Minister has pleaded that KVKs have been opened at every district headquarters in the state but Fazilka is deprived of it despite having a district headquarters status.

Coordinator of the organisation Prem Babbar said, “The setting-up of a KVK is a joint venture of the state and Centre governments. The state government will provide 25 acres and manpower while the Centre will bear the other expenses.”

Babbar said experts and scientists would remain at the kendra and apprise the farmers of latest techniques, information, suggestions and facilities provided by the Agriculture University. They would visit the fields to address farmers’ agriculture-related problems on the spot.

The Punjab Agriculture University Farm Advisory Services will be available at the centre and the scientist will organise monthly-training camps on crop management.

The farmers have expressed their inability to go to Ferozepur to attend camps and demanded that a KVK should be set-up in Fazilka.
