Forum fines institute Rs 2 lakh:
The local District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum on Monday directed a local educational institution to return Rs 32,000 fee with the nine per cent interest and pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to a student, Manjit Singh, resident of Dhura village (Tehsil Dhuri). Manjit Singh had complained to the forum, alleging that the institution had charged the fee in advance for the ETT course of the Jammu and Kashmir Board. However, the institute didn't provide him the examination roll number to appear for the exam, he alleged.

Over 4,500 pills seized from shop: The Lehragaga police on Monday claimed to have seized over 4,500 narcotic pills from a furniture shop in Lehragaga. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered. Later, the neighbouring shopkeepers staged a protest outside the police station. They alleged that the owner was falsely implicated. Mandip Singh Sidhu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sangrur, said the police would investigate the matter.

2 HCS officers posted
: The state government has issued transfer and posting orders of two HCS officers with immediate effect. Satyawan, Joint Registrar (Administration), Co-operative Societies, has been posted as Subdivisional Officer (Civil), Hodal, in place of SK Jain, who has been posted as Joint Director (Administration), Elementary Education, and Deputy Secretary, School Education Department, against a vacant post.

Office-bearers elected: Elections for the Lions Club, Fatehabad, were held here recently. Sunil Sachdeva and Praveen Chiraipotra were elected as the president and secretary of the club respectively.

Two caught gambling: The police caught two persons red-handed while gambling at the Chowari bus stand in the district last evening, a police report received here today said. The report said cash amounting to Rs 7,840, along with playing cards, had also been seized from the two identified as Tilak Raj and Joginder Singh.
