Plea to make Ajitwal new sub-tehsil in Moga dist
Moga, April 23 However, Revenue Minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia, in a written statement issued in the state assembly during the budget session, had stated that there was no such proposal of the government to make Ajitwal a new
sub-tehsil. Founded by a Muslim prophet Ajit Khan, the village is situated on
the Moga-Ludhiana national highway, about 16 km from the district headquarters. Earlier, Ajitwal was a part of the Moga assembly constituency but in the last assembly elections, after the delimitation of
constituencies, Ajitwal was included in the Nihalsinghwala assembly constituency. After the division of police stations in
accordance with the assembly segments by the SAD-BJP government, the perception for
control of the civil administration has also changed with the elected legislators of the ruling parties demanding 'total control' within their assembly segments. As per the information available from Ajitwal and its adjoining villages, it was learnt that the woman legislator had stepped up a move among the local people to demand a new
sub-tehsil at a time when the process for the panchayat elections is underway. Normally, the gram panchayats pass a resolution in their meetings for such demands that are looked into by the district administration before sending it to the state government for approval. Therefore, referendums in village panchayats on making Ajitwal a new sub-tehsil could be taken only after the formation of
new panchayats. Otherwise, it would not only amount to a violation of the model code of
conduct but also amount to infringement upon the rights of the new
panchayats. Senior Akali leader Jathedar Tota Singh, while admitting that
some panchayats were demanding to make Ajitwal a sub-tehsil, said the process could be started only after the panchayat elections. "The issue has been discussed by me with the local MP Paramjit Kaur Gulshan and we will look into the demand while taking into consideration the aspirations of the local legislator,"said the senior
Akali leader. |
