German envoy appeals India ‘not to implement’ death penalty to Bhullar Chennai, April 18 (ANI): German Ambassador to India, Michael Steiner has appealed to the Indian government ‘not to implement’ the death penalty and thus reprieve the capital punishment awarded to Devender Singh Bhullar. Bhullar, who was extradited from Germany, is facing the gallows for the 1993 militant attacks on a top police officer and also a political leader, claiming several lives and injuring many others.
BJP condemns Bangalore blast Bangalore, April 18 (ANI): BJP General Secretary Ananth Kumar, who visited the blast site that took place just a few meters away from the BJP office at Malleswaram in Bangalore on Wednesday, condemned the attack. At least 16 people were injured in the blast near the BJP office.
FBI arrests Mississippi man as suspect in Ricin letters Lee County, Mississippi, April 18 (ANI): The FBI said that it arrested Paul Kevin Curtis of Corinth, Mississippi, in connection with letters sent to U.S. officials, including U.S. President Barack Obama, tainted with the deadly poison ricin. Curtis is "believed to be responsible for the mailings of the three letters sent through the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which contained a granular substance that preliminarily tested positive for ricin," the FBI said.
Musharraf flees from court premises after bail cancellation New Delhi, April 18 (ANI): The Islamabad high court on Thursday ordered the arrest of Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf over the house arrest of judges in March 2007. Immediately after the bail cancellation, police tried to reach the former military ruler but he was escorted by his personal security quickly in his bulletproof four-wheeler.
