Dalit killed brutally in Bhiwani village
Sushil Manav/TNS

Bhiwani, April 17
Some unidentified persons are alleged to have murdered a Dalit youth in the most brutal manner following which they then attempted to give it the shape of an accident. The incident occurred at Devsar village of Bhiwani on Tuesday night, but it came to light today morning.

Old grudge?

The victim’s family alleged that the perpetrators of the crime first offered him alcohol

They then tied him to a tree and killed him by hitting him repeatedly with a moving jeep

The victim’s father alleged that his son has been done to death due to the old grudge the members of the upper caste had been nursing against the family

But the SP has denied that the incident has any caste connotations

Though the exact cause of the murder is not yet known and will be revealed only after investigations, family of the victim is linking the murder to an incident of November last year, when members of the upper caste stopped a Dalit youth of their family from riding a mare on his wedding, leading to tension in the village.

Jai Mal, a 20-year-old Dalit youth of Devsar village, was murdered last night.

The victim’s family, which learnt of the murder in the morning, alleged that the perpetrators of the crime first offered him alcohol and then killed him brutally by tying him to a tree and hitting him with a moving jeep several times.

The victim’s body bore rope marks on its neck as well, alleged the family members.

Raj Pal, the victim’s father, alleged that his son had been killed due to the old grudge the members of the upper caste had been nursing against their family, because they had highlighted the injustice done to them when a Dalit bridegroom from his family was stopped from riding a mare.

Bhiwani SP Simardeep Singh, has, however, denied that the incident has any caste connotations.
