BJP rejects Free Trade Agreement with EU, PM receives flak
Rejecting the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with European Union in the backdrop of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Germany, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the central government for not holding consultations with all stakeholders and political parties and going ahead with the deal. 



India, Germany gear up for round of talks, trade and investment top agenda
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is in Berlin on a three-day official visit, will participate in the second annual German-Indian government consultations on Thursday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed Singh at her chancellery in Berlin, ahead of the intergovernmental talks. During this visit Singh will hold wide range of discussions to strengthen bilateral ties with Germany.



Sudan Ambush: bodies of soldiers arrive in Delhi
The bodies of the five Indian soldiers, who were killed when their convoy was attacked by rebels, during a UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan, arrived in India on Thursday. The Indian Army personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel and four others were injured when their 32-member convoy was ambushed by armed men in Gurmuck in the volatile state of Jonglei in South Sudan.

 



Devotees converge at temples as Navratri begins 
Devout Hindus converged at temples in New Delhi on Thursday morning, to mark the beginning of the nine-day long Hindu festival of Navratri, which is held in honour of the Goddess Durga. Making a beeline, the devotees converged at temples to offer morning prayers on the festival’s first day, as they offer fruits and flowers to the goddess as an act of worship. Decked up with lights and flowers, the temples in Kanpur saw huge crowds of devotees. Meanwhile, people thronged to the temple in Jammu to offer prayers.
