JDA, MC apathy deprives transport nagar of amenities
Jammu, March 5 The area lacks basic amenities like roads and sanitation facilities despite the directions issued by the state government to the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and the Municipal Corporation. Traders allege that the tug-of-war between the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and the Municipal Corporation (JMC) was the reason behind the lack of development in the area. Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora, held a meeting with the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) yesterday and assured them that work in this direction would be started soon. Local traders are keeping their fingers crossed that the development agencies act this time. Transport Nagar was established to house establishments which run inter-state transport. Offices of several companies of packers and movers are also situated here. "We hope that assurances given to us are acted upon. We hope that infrastructure development and sanitation in the business hub of the state becomes a priority with the government. Potholed roads, absence of drinking water should be solved soon," said YV Sharma, CCI president. Potholed roads not only damage trucks but their drivers also receive injuries as their trucks get stuck on road, which have been reduced to piles of dust
and stones. “It is unfortunate that the biggest transport hub of the district has been neglected by the authorities. This has adversely affected people associated with the transport business, which in turn has adversely affected business,” said Sushil Sharma, who runs a truck repairing workshop. The MC and the JDA have been washing their hands off the responsibility to provide basic amenities here. Jora said directions had been issued for work on sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness to be started soon. |
