Man held with poppy husk: The local police has arrested a person for possessing 5kg poppy husk on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Didar Singh, resident of Mirpur village. On a tip-off that Didar Singh was to dispose of the contraband in the area, the police had laid a naka and caught him. A case under Section 15, 61 and 85 has been registered against the accused at Mullepur police station. The police is investigating the matter. Sangrur
105 operated for cataract: The three-day free eye check-up and operation camp, organised by Lions Club Sangrur Greater, concluded here on Sunday. A former president of the club Ashok Garg said this evening about 500 persons had been examined by a team of doctors at the camp. Of them, 105 patients had been identified for cataract operations. In the eyes of these 105 patients lens had been implanted free of cost. Besides, medicines had also been provided free of cost to the patients. An amount of about Rs 2 lakh had been spent by the club on this three-day camp, he added.
