Muktsar, February 24
A city-based author, Bhupinder Preet Kaur, has questioned the reorganisation of the advisory board of the state language department, in which no female writer has been included as a member in the non-government category of Punjabi language.

“Ignoring the female writers suggests that the government does not want to promote them. Even the jury forgot to give any award to the new writers and translators,” said Bhupinder Preet Kaur.

She demanded that the jury include at least one female writer as its member before holding its first meeting on February 27 at Chandigarh.

Bhupinder Preet Kaur also demanded that the number of recently selected 12 members from the government departments must be decreased and some other writers must be included in their place.

Former president of Abohar MC goes missing

Abohar, February 24
A former president of the Municipal Council, Tulsi Ram Dhaulia, has gone missing. His kin reportedly informed the city police that Dhaulia had left his Regar Basti (Prem Nagar) house a few days ago without informing anyone and the family could not contact him since then.

The Congress had decided to elect him as the president of the council in 2004 as he belonged to the Dalit community and had been elected twice in the past.

After the formation of SAD-BJP alliance government in Punjab in 2007, local BJP leaders lodged several complaints against him alleging malpractices in executing development projects. The complaints were inquired by the Vigilance Cell of the Local Bodies Department. However, Dhaulia was exonerated as he asserted that the complaints were biased and based on political vendetta.

The family members as well as his political associates said they did not find it to be a reason that could have prompted him to go missing.
