In the aftermath of the Hyderabad blasts in which 16 people were killed and about 100 injured, the Delhi police is focusing on strengthening its interface with the public who will help it by reporting about suspicious items and persons.

"We have increased our security at crowded markets and religious places today. The staff of the Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles have been told to be friendly to the public as we need their help. The police has also been directed to keep an eye on bicycles and other items that appear to be suspicious," said a police officer.

It is believed that the bombs which exploded in Diksukhnagar were placed on bicycles.

Security was increased at India Gate and the Sarojini Nagar market. According to the police, after the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged, security was beefed up in the national Capital.

A senior Delhi Police officer said, "The security measures are strengthened at India Gate as a precautionary measure."

SWAT, the quick reaction team of Delhi police has been deployed at India Gate. The security agencies have prevented the visitors from going near the Amar Jawan Jyoti circle at India Gate and Raisina Hills. Later in the day, people were allowed to enter these areas, but vehicles had restricted access.

Police barricades were also set up to stop people from going to the lawns of India Gate.

A few days after the hanging of Guru on February 9, an alert was sounded to all the Delhi police units.

Two alerts were again raised across Delhi when the Parliament session began on Thursday and immediately after the Hyderabad blasts that took place the same day.

Impressionable paintings with images of women fighting prejudices and the recent crackdown of the Delhi police on protestors at India Gate after the gangrape of 23-year-old paramedical student adorned a one km long wall outside Delhi University today.

Offered with an opportunity to create an impression of the capital city of their dreams, around 500 established and amateur artists worked for over six hours to create "The Delhi Wall Book".

Painters of all genres participated in the event and got a chance to interact with experienced artists. The event was particularly exciting for budding artists to showcase their work.

Centred around the theme, 'Design the Change,' the event saw one km long wall outside the north campus, painted with artists' thoughts as to what transformation they would want to make for a better tomorrow. The paintings today remained evidently overshadowed with the desire of change in the attitude towards women in Delhi.

Gauri, one of the painters, said that through her work she wants to lend a hand to women who have suffered much violence in their lives.

With a splash of rich colours, Gauri's painting depicts a woman's hand rising above hurdles.

Madhav, another painter, depicted a courtroom with a woman staring at the statue of Justice Blindfolded, police and societal pressure in the backdrop.

"My painting tracks the journey of any woman who has been through violence and trying to get justice--from the moment she is violated to the visit to the police station, the taunts of society and the helplessness of the victim in the court of law. My design is to change this deep-seated malaise in our system," Madhav said.

Other paintings depicted women safety in the public transport system, harmony in different religions, globalization and gender equality as a symbol of uprising.

The event was conceptualized by Tata Housing & Brand Promotions India Pvt. Ltd.

"This is the second chapter of the 'wall book' series. Art is a powerful tool and we believe that freedom of expression will help 'Design the Change'. We have had excellent participation--from paintings speaking of Delhi women to those depicting the plight of women in Kashmir, northeast and other states. The jury will decide the best work now," said an official of Brand Communications.
