Freed from Sharjah jail, youth returns home to a warm welcome

It was a festival-like occasion at Bangsipura village near Jagraon when a youth hailing from this village returned home after being freed from a prison in Sharjah. He was in Sharjah for the past five and a half years. As soon as the youth, Kulwinder Singh, alias Bittu, arrived at his village late last night after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple, villagers gave him a warm welcome and the entire village burst into celebrations. Villagers burst fireworks to celebrate the occasion.

In recent times, the reports of "sub-standard" food being served to students under the scheme, in various sections of media, generated condemnation from several quarters. A single kitchen in the city has been preparing food for about 35,000 students everyday.
Youth commits suicide
Ludhiana, February 13
A 21-year-old youth, Vikas Kumar, a resident of the Rajiv Gandhi Colony, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan. Rachpal Singh, Vikas’s father, told the police that his son was working in a factory. He returned home last night and entered his room and committed suicide.
The matter came to light when his father opened the door to ask him for dinner.

Two booked for implicating man in false case
Ludhiana, February 13
The city police has booked Sanjiv Bhargav and Surinder Bhargave, residents of Urban Estate, for falsely implicating a man in an attempt to murder case. Bramh Kumar, a resident of Housing Board Colony in BRS Nagar, was facing the attempt to murder charges. During the inquiry conducted by ACP (West) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, allegations leveled against Bramh Kumar were found false. It further came to light that Sanjiv and Surinder had implicated Bramh Kumar in a false case and pocketed Rs 2 lakh to affect a compromise.
Husband, in-laws strangle mother of two to death

A 27-year-old mother of two was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at Mehsampur village today. The accused, Harpreet Singh, was arrested following the incident.
Athletics meet: Competitive spirit wafts through Khalsa college

Acknowledging the importance of sports in an academic environment, the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, inaugurated a two-day annual athletics meet here today.
