ISO certification for DC office, Fard Kendra
Bathinda, February 4 Yadav said the procedure was initiated in August 2011. "We realised that the data under the DC office needed to be streamlined for the convenience of general public. With legislations like the Right to Information (RTI) Act and the Right to Service (RTS) Act, we are bound to deliver service within a specified period of time," said Yadav. Over the past an year and a half, the data of all the offices falling under the DC office has been duly catalogued, marked and kept in order, in a record room. Any kind of data could now be available within 15 minutes, which was a Herculean task earlier. To begin with, all the old data was divided into significant and insignificant lots. Thereafter, the data of procedural value was saved and the rest was removed. With the data given proper place, it was the uniformity of rooms that was developed. "With these two things done, the staff working in these offices developed work culture, which is mandatory to bring efficiency in the office work," said Yadav. For the convenience of public, rooms have been duly marked with the names of officials working there. The DC office and the Fard Kendra then sent the case for ISO certification to the British Certification Council. A team of the ISO audited the two offices twice before certifying them. In order to maintain the level of certification awarded, the auditing agency will check the two offices every six months. Yadav said post-ISO certification, the next item on the agenda was to provide LAN (Local Area Network) facility to the departments working under the DC office. "The master software would be uploaded in my office. I would be able to check the working of the departments on my computer as well as mobile phone," he added. In April 2012, the Bathinda's Suvidha Centre had become the second in the state (after Ferozepur) to get an ISO certification. What is in store for public?

Kinnow price drops after rains, growers’ woes rise
Bathinda, February 4 The area under kinnow cultivation increased from the last year's 3,100 hectares to 3,150 hectares this season as many farmers opted for it due to its various advantages. The horticultural experts and orchardists said farmers switched from cultivating grapes to kinnow due as the shelf life of the latter was more. A progressive farmer, Jagtar Brar from Mehma Sarja village who has one of the oldest kinnow orchards, said due to showers, kinnow growers were finding it difficult to market their produce. He said kinnow production varied from 17 to 22 quintals per acre. "As compared to the last year, the kinnow production in Bathinda has improved. The increased temperature last year had adversely affected its production but so far the temperature is quite favourable for the fruit," said horticulture officer, Narinderjit Singh. He said last year, the temperature increased in the month of February, when the fruit was in its flowering stage. "The growth of plant increases and production comes down if temperature rises at this stage," the horticulture officer said. He pointed out that the marketing of the fruit was surely going to be affected due to rains. "The price of kinnow reduced from Rs 22 to Rs 8 per kg and Rs 12 per kg for A-Grade kinnow. The marriage season is on and kinnow should have been sold like hot cake, but showers have put a damper on its sales," said Jagsir Singh of Burj Mansa village under the Maur block. The marketing of the fruit will deteriorate further if rain continues and farmers would end up earning nothing this season, Jagsir added. Farmers said fruit would start dropping if rains continued and they would have to suffer losses. Fact file
