Though A2Z Waste Management Ludhiana Ltd has started door-to-door collection of garbage from the Chaura Bazaar area, members of the Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan have threatened they would not let the company operate even if an FIR is registered against them.
16-yr-old ends life

A 16-year-old student of DAV School committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling hook of a room located in the backyard of his house in Phullawal village today.
The deceased, identified as Gurvir Singh, was a Class IX student of DAV School.

Had bullocks participating in the traditional cart race at Grewal stadium in Kila Raipur ran on roads of a metropolitan city or a union territory, jockeys of a majority of these would have been challaned for violating the speed limit as it exceeded 50 km per hour.
Foreigners enjoy the games.

Bullock cart race remained the only attraction for the elderly on the concluding day of the Kila Raipur Rural Sports at Grewal Sports Stadium today.
They remained glued to their seats in the stadium during the bullock cart races and preferred to stroll when the ground was occupied by other performers.

Tragedy waiting to happen

It’s the presence of mind of commuters that keeps them safe on the perilous Tibba Bridge. The authorities have done nothing to make the passage safe on the bridge.
The sides of the bridge have eroded. The Public Works Department has been informed about the condition of the bridge, but to no avail.

Swine flu claims two more lives

Two more patients suffering from swine flu died at Christian Medical College and Hospital
(CMCH) and Dayanand Medical College Hospital (DMCH). One of the victims, who belonged to
Ludhiana, died at the CMCH last night. Another patient, a native of Rajasthan and undergoing treatment at the
DMCH, died this morning.
