Vehicle registration to get costlier
UT may increase vehicle tax rates by 2% to bring these on a par with neighbouring states

Ex-student attacked near college
Chandigarh, February 3
High drama was witnessed outside Khalsa College in Sector 26 today when a former student was attacked with sharp weapons. The victim, Ishwardeep Singh Sandhu, a resident of Fazilka and former student of DAV College, was attacked. He was there along with his friend Gautum. He had first visited the Sector 7 market from where he went towards the Khalsa College. The attackes had come in a car.

3 cases of swine flu reported
Chandigarh, February 3
Three cases of swine flu were reported in the city today. These included one case from Sector 15 and two cases from Punjab. The total number of the cases reported in the tricity region, including Panchkula and Mohali, has reached 19 since September, 2012. The spread of the disease intensified in the beginning of December, 2012, while only one case was reported in September.

The residents of Sector 71 are having sleepless nights as some mischievous persons break the windowpanes of the vehicles, parked outside the houses, here. The mischievous elements, who most probably are college students, targeted two vehicles-a Toyota Liva and Tata Safari-in the wee hours today.

32-year-old commits suicide
Panchkula, February 3
A 32-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after consuming a pesticide here today. The victim has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Sector 26. Rajesh was working as an assistant with the education department.

Four booked for fraud
Chandigarh, February 3
The Crime Branch of the UT police has booked four persons included three city residents and one Zirakpur resident for committing a fraud of Rs 13.50 lakh with Federal Bank, Sector 8, on Sunday. A case was registered on the complaint of chief manager with the bank.

C Rajesh of railways wins cyclothon
Chandigarh, February 3
Professional cyclists participate in 61-km elite national race during the Chandigarh Cyclothon on Sunday. Cyclist, C Rajesh of Railways, won the Chandigarh Cyclothon Professionals' competitive 61-km race and bagged the wining prize of Rs one lakh, here today.
Pankaj Kumar from Haryana, secured the second position, to bag Rs 70,000, while his another person from Haryana, Dilawar Singh, finished third and took home the cash award of Rs 50,000.

The winner golphers in jubiliant mood during the prize giving function of Rotary District Golf Tournament, Chandigarh on Sunday. The team of Rotary Club, Panchkula, was adjudged the best team in the Rotary District Golf tournament, held at the Chandigarh Golf Club, here today. Around 75 Rotarian golfers from district 3080 (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh) participated in this prestigious golf tournament. Announcing the results, Dr GS Kochhar, District Golf Chairman, stated that the tournament was played in the 3/4th handicap stableford format.

MCA- A route team B in Mohali cricket cup

In the ongoing, first Mohali Cricket Cup, the team of Mohali Cricket Association (MCA)-A defeated the MCA-B team, here today. The winning side, while batting first, posted 235 runs. Their batsman, Nirmal, scored 105 off 108 while Shubham contributing 68 off 57.
