A kidnapping call at the PCR took the city police for a ride today. The incident took place at 3 am when a resident called up at the police control room, stating that he had just witnessed a kidnapping incident outside West End Mall on Ferozepur Road. He said three men pushed a man inside a Toyota Innova and fled towards Ferozepur Road.

2 arrested with 16 kg of ‘ganja’

In a major breakthrough, the city police has nabbed a father-son duo with 16 kg
of ganja. The accused have been identified as Subhan Ansaran and his son Abdul Wahab Ansari. They were arrested from Bharti Colony in Samel Tabri this evening.

MC yet to act against violators
Ludhiana, January 25
Civic officials are yet to act against building bylaw violators. The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued challans under Sections 269 and 270 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, which means that the violations have to be demolished within three days. Yet, nothing has happened.

Police acts swiftly
Khanna, January 25
The Khanna police has claimed to have rescued an abducted girl within three hours of the incident.
The incident happened at Bhamaddi village near here. A youth, along with four accomplices, dragged the minor girl from a bus in broad day light. The accused has been identified as Sukhdeep Singh of
Bhamaddi, while the victim is a resident of Kamma village.
Engineer dies at forging mill
Ludhiana, January 25
A mechanical engineer was killed while fixing
a snag in a machine at a forging mill at Kanganwal today. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Vinod Kumar. An eyewitness said his muffler got stuck in a rotator of
the machine and he was strangulated. The Sahnewal police has initiated inquest proceeding under Section 174 of the IPC.
In a separate incident, three shopkeepers were injured in a clash at Saban Bazaar.

Six-yr-old’s murder
Raids on to nab accused
Ludhiana, January 25
The police conducted more raids in Jodhewal Basti to nab the accused, who raped and killed a six-year-old girl. Her body was dumped in a vacant plot at Ekta Nagar on Rahon Road.
Sources said 40 persons were rounded up for questioning in the past three days, but the police had failed to get any clue.
Highway robbers flee with mini-truck

Mini-truck driver booked
Ludhiana, January 25
The city police has booked the mini-truck driver
who mowed down a 19-year-old motorcyclist in Barewal area. The accused, identified as Kala, allegedly did not stop his vehicle after hitting the motorcycle and ran over the victim. The victim, Jagshir Singh, died on the spot.

Mahant found hanging from fan
Mandi Gobindgarh, January 25
A mahant allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan.
Suneel Kumar, brother of the victim, Mahant Jiwan Sharma alias Jyoti, said his brother had a quarrel with one Ashu Sharma and one Kala while they were sitting in a room.
When the family members opened the door after some time, they found Jiwan Kumar was hanging from the fan, while Kala and Ashu were lying unconscious.
The police is investigating the incident. OC
Man booked for kidnapping
Ludhiana, January 25
A money lender has been booked for kidnapping a five-year-old boy.
Vijay Yadav, father of the victim, Sachdev, said he had borrowed Rs 10,000 from Pritpal Singh of Dashmesh Market on interest, but was finding it difficult to repay. Pritpal kidnapped Sachdev from his house yesterday.

Gang of robbers busted
Ludhiana, January 25
With the arrest of five persons, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has claimed to have busted a gang of robbers who were looting passengers by pointing sharp-edged weapons at them.
The accused identified as Kamaljit, Maninder, Baljit, Daljit, Kamal Bahadur and Raju were arrested following a tip off.

Missing manager’s car found

The car of Amarjit Singh, who went missing yesterday, was recovered near Bhakra Canal at Sehjadpur village this afternoon.
Amarjit Singh, who was working as the manager of a Mandi Gobindgarh-based industrial unit, reportedly did not
reach his home in Sector 4-C yesterday. The local police is trying to trace him.

4 snatchers arrested

With the arrest of four persons, the police has claimed to have busted two gangs of snatchers. Two stolen bikes and 12 mobile phones were recovered from them. The accused, identified as Mahmud, Ram Dhuria, Vishal and Kaliwere arrested last night. The police said the four were habitual offenders and had been in and out of jail.

Court settles three rape cases in a day

The fast track court, set up for handling rape and dowry death cases, has
decided three rape cases in a day. It has convicted two persons in two cases. In
the first case, three accused were acquitted as the prosecutrix turned hostile
and did not support the prosecution case.
