Punjab Guv to unfurl national flag in Ropar: Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil will unfurl the national fag at the state-level Republic Day function, to be organised in Ropar. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradip Kumar Aggrawal, while reviewing the arrangements, said 16 contingents from Punjab Armed Police, Ropar police, Home Guards, ex-servicemen and NCC cadets will take part in the march past on the occasion. Ludhiana Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhruman Nimbale will command the parade and Ropar Deputy Superintendent of Police Harbir Singh Atwal will be second in command.

Cancer hospital to come up at Sangrur: The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has approved in principle the setting up of a 300-bedded Satellite Centre of the PGIMER, Chandigarh, at Sangrur, in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. A concept proposal in this regard was prepared by the PGIMER, Chandigarh, after detailed discussion.
