Minister lays foundation stone of school
Our Correspondent

Tarn Taran, January 3
State Education Minister Sinkadar Singh Maluka has expressed his resentment towards certain points mentioned in the Right to Education (RTE) Act. He said certain points mentioned in RTE Act are against the educational atmosphere.

Maluka was addressing a gathering in Khadur Sahib, 25 km from here, today after he laid down the foundation stone of the building of the Government Secondary School to be built with the help of Padamshri Baba Sewa Singh of Kar Sewa.

Maluka said there is no provision to strike off the name of absentee in the RTE and the school can not fail a student up to Class VIII despite poor his or her poor academic record.

He said the state education department has made a proposal to start examination of Class V, VI, VII and VIII to assess students’ performance. All vacant posts of teachers would be filled till June.

The building of the Government Secondary School, Khadur Sahib, would be built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore for which the material would be supplied by the state government and the supervision work would be catered by the Kar Sewa sect.

He said a quality structure would be raised with dedicated sports area housing football, hockey ground of national standard as well as a 300 metre track for athletics.

Appreciating the initiative of Padma Shri Baba Sewa Singh, Maluka said schools are ‘public institutions’ and a proactive contribution by the public is a good omen for the educational scenario.

He said there is a limit for funding as far as the government is concerned but the contribution by the public is limitless. Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, a former minister of Punjab, said the state government had released funds for the development of the township.
