Deputy Commissioner Tanu M Kashayap said they were ready to implement the programme for the beneficiaries of five schemes in the district.

Nawanshahr is among 51 districts selected by the Central government for implementing the Direct Cash Benefit Transfer scheme in the first phase launched in the country today. "As many as 34 welfare schemes have been identified for implementing the scheme and in Nawanshahr district, scholarship schemes and Janani Suraksha Yojna were to be covered in the first phase," said the Deputy Commissioner, adding that the district had identified the beneficiaries and compiled the data required for making Aadhaar Cards and opening up of bank accounts for beneficiaries.

Sources said the Janani Suraksha Yojna was not going to be fully covered in the first phase due to problems being faced in getting pregnant women enrolled for Aadhaar cards.
