Punjab, Haryana farmers battling dry spell to get direct Central aid
Kisan Credit Cards to meet diesel cost to run tubewells, states told to list beneficiaries
Chandigarh, August 10
The Centre will directly compensate Punjab and Haryana farmers for expenses borne by them to buy diesel to run their tubewells following a deficient monsoon. The states would also be compensated for additional power purchased by them to nurture their paddy crop.

Ex-DSP shot dead outside Srinagar mosque
Srinagar, August 10
A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was shot dead after Friday prayers in Srinagar today.
Abdul Hamid Bhat was attacked at around 2 pm on the outskirts of Srinagar at Tengpora locality. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack. Bhat, a resident of Moominabad, Batamaloo, had retired from service last year.

After hiccups, Pak Hindu pilgrims arrive in India
Islamabad/Amritsar, Aug 10
Pakistan Immigration authorities today stopped around 250 Pakistani Hindus from crossing over to India at the Wagah Hindu pilgrims from Pakistan at the Attari-Wagah border on Friday.
