Maruti to decide re-opening plant on Monday
Tribune News Service

Gurgaon, August 10
Maruti Suzuki India will take a decision on reopening its violence-hit Manesar facility, where the company had declared a lockout on July 21, on Monday.

"We expect the police report on violence at the plant on Monday. We'll take it up along with the plant's technical assessment report and the report on the condition of the employees who were injured in the violence. Only after the management discusses these reports will it decide on how soon the plant could be reopened," said Maruti Suzuki chief operating officer (administration) SY Siddiqui.

According to senior officials, the company will strive to reopen the Manesar facility soon but in phases. The plant was hit by violence and arson on July 18 during which one senior executive was killed and nearly 100 others were injured.

Stating that the safety and well-being of its employees were paramount, the management declared a lockout at the plant on July 21.

While announcing the lockout, Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava had said: "To me, what is more important is safety of my colleagues than producing some cars to make some money.”

The Haryana Government had announced formation of a special investigation team to probe the incident.
