MC’s double whammy: House tax, regularisation
Rohtak, June 28 According to sources in the Municipal Corporation Office here, the authorities have decided to impose a house tax of Rs one per sq feet on a vacant residential plot in the town. This is a part of the new policy announced by the state government. The state government has already announced a house tax from this year in the authorised and developed residential colonies. Officials of the department concerned have already launched a survey in both the residential and commercial areas of the city. It is claimed that while the rate of house tax is nominal, it would help the civic body generate its own sources of income. The civic body here had been upgraded to a municipal corporation last year and had included several villages lying within 5-10 km of the district headquarters here. Meanwhile, resentment prevails among residents and plot holders of several colonies that are awaiting regularisation. “We have been hearing about regularisation for the past one year but no such sanction had been received so far,” claimed Sanjay, a resident of Harki Devi Colony adjoining Sector 4. He said though formalities are reported to be over and the office of the DTP (Department of town and country planning) had submitted the file about a year back, the sanction had been getting delayed. “There had been around 37 authorised and atleast 125 colonies which had been unauthorised in the city”, claimed an official of the DTP office, who admitted that several colonies recommended by it were awaiting regularisation. “The government ought to realise house tax only after regularising the residential colonies’’, said Raj Kumar Kapoor of the district BJP here. Meanwhile it is reported that the survey has found that about 20 percent of the houses would be paying house tax for the first time.

Gap in yield in farmers’ fields can be plugged: Agriculture Dept
Sushil Manav/TNS
Sirsa, June 28 “There is a gap between yield obtained in farmers' fields and the one obtained in national demonstrations. Proper transfer of technology particularly of integrated water, nutrition and the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) can bridge this gap,” said a spokesperson of the Agriculture Department at Sirsa. “It has been seen that the IPM Technology not only increases the yield but also reduces the cost of cultivation thereby increasing the net return of farmers. Supply of inputs particularly certified seeds will also receive priority in the Mini Mission-II,” he added. One of the important components of the IPM is use of bio-pesticides and use of bio-agents (parasites and predators) for management of both sucking pests and bollworms. This is cost effective and eco-friendly. The spokesperson said 2,500 Front-line Demonstrations would be set up in the entire state and the department would provide nutrients worth Rs 1,400 per demonstration to farmers. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dr J Ganesan said the Agriculture Department would set up 49 farmers field schools in Sirsa, where 1,715 farmers would learn techniques of management of cotton crop. As many as 150 farmer field schools would be set up in the entire state, he said. Farmers will get lessons on the IPM and the use of Pheromone Traps for the pests. Validation and dissemination of the IPM technology is part of the mission as the main reason of decline in cotton production and productivity is due to damage caused by pests. |
