HUDA residents to get potable water soon
Sirsa, June 14 Sirsa MP Ashok Tanwar informed this in a meeting where representatives of the Resident Welfare Associations of the HUDA sectors raised their long-standing problems before the authorities. The HUDA has developed three sectors in Sirsa: Sector 19 and 20 and Sector 21 through a private approved developer. The residents, here, were not getting clean drinking water even after 20 years of the making of the first sector. Tanwar said a sewage-treatment plant (STP) for Rs 45.34 crore would also be set up very soon for the HUDA sectors. At present, the residents are getting water supply from tubewells installed in nearby Farwai village while there is no sewerage-treatment plant for the sector. Residents allege they have been getting water with higher total dissolved sold (TDS) contents than specified for drinking water. The sewerage waste of the sectors is being left in the open towards residential plots of Part 3 of Sector 20. Tanwar, whose own palatial house is coming up in Sector 20, said Sirsa would be the only city where HUDA is setting up
STP so early. “In many other towns of Haryana, the HUDA has not set up any STP though six or more sectors have been developed,” he said claiming credit for the two projects. Deputy Commissioner J Ganesan, ADC Rajiv Rattan, SDM Munish Nagpal and members of the Residents Welfare Associations of the HUDA sectors were present in the meeting. |
DC asks govt to extend water supply to Mahendragarh canal
Jhajjar, June 14 A communiqué in this regard has recently been sent by the Mahendragarh district authorities to Financial Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary, Irrigation. Mahendragarh Deputy Commissioner Dr Saket Kumar has urged the commissioner to extend water supply to the
Mahendragarh canal system by a week to meet the requirement of filling of tanks and village ponds of the district. Notably, the Mahendragarh canal has dried up because its flow was stopped thrice last week owing to recovery of bodies from the canal. “The Mahendragarh canal usually runs from June 2 to June 17 every year but the canal system this time received hardly one third share of the required water supply. Water supply has been affected in the Narnaul branch which meets the requirement of potable and irrigation supply of a large numbers of villages,” said Kumar. He maintained that water tanks could not be filled because of inadequate supply of water leading to hue and cry among the masses due to scarcity of drinking water for human as well as animal population in Narnaul and adjoining areas. The DC has urged the Financial Commissioner to continue water supply till June 25 instead of June 17 due to extensive heat
conditions. “The village fields and taps in houses have dried up. Water tanks are empty affecting water supply to residential areas. Village ponds have also dried up,” said Rajesh Kumar, a local resident. Meanwhile, an Irrigation Department official said that the district gets its water supply from the Yamuna but the supply dropped tremendously
this time. |
Eight peacocks succumb to heat stroke
Gurgaon, June 14 The situation is particularly awful during the cruel summer months, with many of the hapless creatures succumbing to the intense heat wave and dry environs. For instance, at least eight peacocks have died at the Hasanpur village of the district located in the Aravalli foothills during the past few days. After being informed of the deaths by the villagers, local Wildlife Department officials visited the spot and sent the carcasses of three peacocks, including a peahen, for the postmortem examination. Some other peacocks, which were found in a critical condition, have been sent to a local veterinary hospital for treatment. According to a veterinary officer, the postmortem examination of the dead peacocks had indicated that heatstroke was the probable cause of the deaths. Local villagers and bird lovers said the temperature in the treeless hilly areas - like the village where the peacocks died - remains considerably higher than that in the fields, resulting in deaths of tender birds and animals. |
Automatic Fingerprint Identification System set in motion
Karnal, June 14 The DGP said as digital technology develops, fingerprinting is
steadily being used to prevent fraud and identification of criminals.
The process would not only facilitate quick verification of identity but
would also save time. All districts will be provided with local
fingerprint recording and matching station known as Remote Query
Terminal (RQT) and will be connected to a main server at SCRB through
State Wide Area Network (SWAN). Terminals would be established at 21
districts, three commissionaires and one at GRP would be made functional
in a month’s time. The device used for scanning live fingerprints
into AFIS is called ‘Live Scan’. Haryana police is among the first
few states that has acquired this technology after Rajasthan, Karnataka,
Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Uttrakhand. With the
help of this new system it will be easier to match fingerprints of
suspects or criminals automatically. Live scanners which are main
fingerprint input devices will also be installed in district courts,
main railway stations and other important places to check the identity
of suspects or criminals. Moreover, the police van fitted with
fingerprint-based live scanner “Pehchan Kaun”, having criminal
records, including fingerprints of 25,000 criminals operating in Haryana
as well as adjoining states, would become more effective after being
connected with AFIS. The AFIS would give the result in just 40 seconds,
Dalal added. Director of State Crime Record Bureau Laik Ram Dabas said
the AFIS would result in further improvement in police working in
Haryana. |
