DC supervises MC poll arrangements
Amritsar, May 30 Aggarwal said all requisite arrangements have been made in collaboration with the police. “At least 10 per cent extra voting machines have been arranged for the ensuing polls which can be used to meet in case of any technical snag and police force has also been deployed,” he said. He said representatives of political parties and poll aspirants will soon be apprised about the model code of poll conduct. He cautioned the political parties against defacing public property with any kind of publicity material. According to the directions of the state election commission, the contenders will have to seek prior permission to use loudspeakers in their campaigning or to address rallies, from the returning officers of their areas. “Use of loudspeaker will not be allowed between 10 pm and 6 am. The contender can make arrangements for videography at the polling station after getting a nod from their respective returning officers, yet videographing the voting compartment will not be allowed,” he said. Polling has been scheduled for June 10 and the counting process will start at the respective polling stations after 6 pm. The results are also expected to be announced on the same day. |

Amritsar, May 30 District family welfare officer, Dr Ranjit Singh Buttar, in a statement issued here today has appealed that hookah culture is spreading fast and parents need to keep a close watch over the activities of their children. The department had last month conducted raids at many of these hookah bars and seized tobacco and other equipments. Dr Buttar said ‘World No Tobacco Day’ is observed on May 31 each year. He said on this day people should pledge that the city will be made a tobacco free. Dr Prahlad Duggal, a head and neck cancer surgeon at Amandeep Hospital, who is also associated with the ‘Voice of Tobacco Victims’ said activists will meet Director Generals’ of Police of various states with the appeal to make tobacco related offences a part of the monthly crime report so that the anti-tobacco laws get implemented. He said he has also written to the DGP, Punjab, SS Saini, requesting him to issue a notification making it mandatory that all the tobacco related offences be made part of the monthly crime report.

Amritsar, May 30 A case under Section 379, 411 IPC has been registered against them at Tarsikka police here. The CIA staff of the Amritsar rural police district had laid a naka near Jabowal drain. Following a tip off, they intercepted the accused riding two motorcycles without any number plates. The accused could not produce the documents regarding the ownerships of the vehicles. Investigations found that the motorcycles were stolen. The police said raids were being conducted to arrest their fourth accomplice Ranjit Singh. — TNS
