A youth studying in Australia was crushed to death by a truck after he indulged in a brawl with its driver.
Vikram Saini (24), a resident of Kotli village, about 10 km from here, had a narrow escape when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a truck on the Pathankot-Amritsar highway near Kotli.

Vikram stopped his bike in front of the truck and advised the driver to drive carefully on the highway. However, the truck driver, allegedly, crushed him to death under his truck and fled.

Perturbed at the incident, residents of Kotli and nearby villages gathered at the spot and staged a dharna seeking arrest of the truck driver. The residents were demanding registration of a murder case against the truck driver.

However, the police booked the truck driver under Section 304 of the IPC. The villagers lifted the dharna after DSP PS Virk assured them to investigate the matter.
Vikram, an engineering student in Australia, had returned home only a few days ago and was scheduled to join his classes in Australia next month.
