Petrol station manager robbed: Two miscreants with muffled faces looted Rs 1 lakh from a manager of a petrol station at gunpoint and fled after committing the crime here today.
The police immediately came to the spot and cordoned off the area to nab the culprits. The manager of Jai Mata Filling Station, located on the GT Road, was on his way to Punjab National Bank for depositing Rs 1 lakh when two motorcyclists intercepted him near Kathuria Hotel and looted him.

Firing scare: A scare was created here on Saturday when a youth entered a shoe store near Punjabi Dharamshala and fired at the owner of the store. The owner escaped unhurt as the bullet got stuck in a showcase. Neither the police nor the showroom owner had any clue about the motive behind the shooting as no ransom note was left behind.

Boy restored: Raja (8), who was found stranded at the local railway station recently, was restored to his parents by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Kurukshetra, on Friday. Surender Kumar, SHO (GRP), said Raja of Uttar Pradesh reached here by boarding a wrong train inadvertently. After Raja told them their village’s name, the police contacted the Nigohi police where a complaint of missing Raja had already been lodged. Immediately after this, the Nigohi police informed Raja’s parents who reached Kurukshetra where they were reunited with theor son. REWARI
Youth killed: A youth, Sanjiv Nehra of Jhajjar, died when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up vehicle on the Kosli-Jhajjar road, at Chhawwa village, near Kosli, on Friday. The mishap took place when Sanjiv was returning to Jhajjar while the pick-up vehicle was coming from Jhajjar towards
Kosli. Thief arrested: During checking of vehicles at a barricade on Saturday, the Kosli police nabbed Raj Singh with a stolen motorcycle. During interrogation Raj Singh spilled the beans stating that the bike had been stolen from a school at Kosli on October 19. Ex-sarpanch’s uncle gunned down: Balraj of Bhainswal Kalan village was today gunned down by three car-borne armed youths near Tihar Malik turning towards the Gohana-Sonepat road.
The murder of the deceased, who was an uncle of
Mukesh, former sarpanch of the village, is the fifth murder due to election-related enmity between two families of the village.
According to information, the youths stopped their car in front of the auto-rickshaw and fired indiscriminately at Balraj who died on the spot.

Thief stealing phone cable nabbed: Residents in Aut caught one out of three cable thieves stealing telephone cable in the Piyun locality under Aut police station at 11.30 pm and recovered 25 kg of cable and handed the thief to the police. Ved Ram of Piyun spotted three persons burning telephone cable to extract copper from the cable. He with nighbourers pounced on them, but two thieves escaped under cover of darkness while one of them was nabbed.

27 students donate blood: A blood donation camp was organised jointly by the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC), Nurpur, Blood Bank, Dharamsala, and Blood Storage Centre, Nurpur, under the aegis of the HP State Blood Transfusion Council at the Arya Government College here on Saturday. Chief guest Rakesh Pathania said a blood donor got a free health check up, besides free screening for five diseases like HIV 1/2, hepatitis C, malaria and syphilis. Twentyseven students, associated with the Students Central Association, NSS and Red Ribbon Club, donated blood. According to RK Sood, Kangra District AIDS Control Programme Officer, the fortnight tour of the mobile blood bank was launched at Dharamsala and it was the third camp in a series of 15 camps in the district. Chander Mehta, in charge, ICTC, Nurpur, talked about the services for HIV under the National AIDS Programme.

Ayurveda prof to be honoured: Dr Geeta Garg, professor in the Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR), will be honoured with the Lord Dhanvantri Award. The award is being given to Dr Geeta for her contribution to the field of Ayurveda. Dr RL Sharma, Chairman, JIAR and several educational, political, social organisations, have congratulated her.
NCC cadets visit orphanage: The NCC cadets of Trikuta Degree College today visited an orphanage at Ved Mandir, Amphalla, and distributed pens, notebooks, sweets and fruits among the inmates. The cadets also spent some time with the children and interacted with them.

Cop found dead in Kathua: A policeman was found dead with a bullet injuries in Kathua district. Constable Amarjeet Singh was found dead with bullet wounds in neck along with his service rifle at a disputed land in Kathua district on Saturday evening, officials said. The body was handed over to the bereaved family after a post-mortem. The police was probing whether Amarjeet committed suicide or was shot dead.

Footballers to be trained in Brazil: Six young footballers from Kashmir will have their dream come true when they fly to Brazil, the land of football, to train as coaches. Basharat Bashir Baba from Pulwama, Masood Maqbool and Imran Bhat (both from Srinagar), Abid Yaqoob from Budgam, Muzamil Mahmood from Ganderbal and Tahir Maqbool from Bandipora will leave for Brazil as part of a cultural sports interchange programme. The six boys will fly to Sao Paulo for a training course provided by the Syndicate of Professional Football Trainers of Sao Paulo, Juan Marcos, who runs the International Sports Academy Trust (ISAT) in the Valley, told reporters here. Drugs recovered in Anantnag: Banned narcotics and psychotropic drugs were recovered in two incidents in Anantnag district, the police said on Saturday. Over 700 bottles of psychotropic drug “Recodex” were seized from Parvaiz and Javaid Ahmad Dar, near Arwani in Bijbehara town. A case has been registered. In other incident, five kg of charas was recovered from the possession of Ishfaq Hussain Malik in

Teachers stage demonstration:
Unrecognised teachers under the banner of the Ashaskiya Asahayik Manyta Prapt Vidhyalaya Sangathan staged a demonstration in front of the Vidhan Sabha in favour of their demands here today. They shouted slogans and raised banners demanding government grants to the teachers of non-government and non-assisted schools.

electrocuted: Prem Singh, a farmer, was killed due to electrocution in his fields at Motharwala Danda village under the Nehru Colony police station last night. According to the police, Prem Singh had gone to water his fields but did not return. Fateh Singh found him laying unconscious in his field. It was later, learnt that owner of neighboring field Awwal Singh had put electric current in his fields which electrocuted Prem Singh. He was taken to Doon Hospital where he was declared dead. On the complaint of Fateh Singh, a case under Section 304 of the IPC was registered against Awwal Singh. He was arrested and sent to jail.

Action against two officials: District Magistrate, Champawat, Ashish Joshi has ordered the initiation of strict action under the provisions of the Government Employees Service Rulebook against two engineers, PC Joshi and Charan Dutt, for dereliction of duty and financial irregularities with regard to the building of a canal from a tubewell in Gaidakhyali village. Joshi has also ordered the recovery of a sum of Rs 3.42 lakh from two contractors, Mahavir Singh and Narayan Singh. The matter had been raised by residents of the village recently and a probe had been ordered into the matter. It was found that the payment had been made to the contractors for having built 1663 m of canal while in reality the construction had been done only for 1300.40 m. It was also found during the probe that no brick had been used for construction beyond the initial 60 m. Poor utilisation of funds:
District Magistrate, Champawat, Ashish Joshi has expressed displeasure over the utilisation of mere 50 per cent of the funds allocated to Middle Education, Agriculture, Alternative Energy, Tourism, Scheduled Castes Welfare, Sports, Youth Welfare, Jal Sansthan and Irrigation Departments under the district plan for the current financial year. At a review meeting held on Saturday, Joshi has ordered that the said departments must see to it that 80 per cent of the funds allocated to them were put to use by the end of the next month. Joshi also expressed his annoyance over the failure of the PWD, Irrigation, Middle Education, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Departments to utilise the funds allocated under the state plan. 528 vehicles challaned:
A three-day drive to check overloading of vehicles by the Transport Department in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar has resulted in challaning of 528 vehicles. Thirty five vehicles were also impounded. According to information, the fine realised from the defaulters is expected to go above Rs 12 lakh. The drive had been initiated following several complaints with regard to overloading of vehicles. About 200 vehicles were found to be plying on the roads with their drivers not possessing proper documents. Students yet to get uniforms:
Residents of villages located in the remote interiors of the region have been complaining of schoolchildren studying in government schools not getting their books and uniforms. The latest complaint in this regard has come from the residents of Neelpahari Jalna village of the Dhari area of Nainital district. The school is being run with the help of a single teacher addressing the needs of 33 children. According to reports, these children are yet to get their free uniforms. The poor people whose wards study in the school said despite half the academic session being over, the children were being compelled to go to school in old tattered clothes. Cong men hold protest:
A large number of Congress men held a protest in front of the Vikas Bhawan in Bhimtal town seeking upgrading of facilities being provided at the government hospital in the town. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister BC Khanduri through the local administration stating that appointments be made to the hospital as per the norms soon. They said the government inaugurated a primary health centre (PHC) in a hurry to gather some publicity but the very basics like proper staff and equipment were still missing from the premises. They have threatened to intensify their agitation if the concerns of the people are not addressed soon.
