Parmod Bharti

Nawanshahr, October 23
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the IITT College of Engineering, Pojewal, to refund the entire fee amount after deducting a sum of Rs 1,000 (processing charges) to Parneet Kumar of Moga.

Parneet Kumar in his petition filed before the forum had said he was selected in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in the second counselling and deposited a sum of Rs 62,896 as fee with the college in 2009. But, in third counselling, he got admission in Baba Heera Singh Bhattal Institute of Engineering & Technology at Lehra Gaga ( Sangrur) and again deposited the fee there.

As he had not attended any class at Pojewal college, so he submitted a request for fee refund as per the rules of Punjab Technical University. But the IITT College of Engineering, refunded a sum of Rs 6,000 instead of the entire amount.

The college in its reply submitted with the fourm, while citing terms and conditions mentioned in the prospectus/admission brochure of the college under para no 13(5), said as the petitioner had left the college at his own sweet will, he was not entitled for refund of entire fee and other charges.

LN Sharma, president, Karnail Singh and Sudha Sharma, members of the Forum, after hearing the arguments and perusal of the documentary evidence put by both the parties, reached at the conclusion that as the petitioner had not attended the classes even for a single day, he was entitled for the refund of entire fee.

The Forum cited the decisions of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in cases titled as MVJ College of Engineering v/s Tukaram Rao in 2009 and Saravpreet Singh v/s Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of engineering & Technology, Moga.

‘Cong to go it alone in Assembly poll’

Mohali, October 23
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh today said the party would go it alone in the forthcoming assembly elections, be it Akalis, the BJP or any other splinter groups put together.

Interacting with mediapersons during a congregation organised by the Saini Community at Kharar, the former CM said the Congress was strong enough to go it alone, unlike the Akalis who had started searching for alliance partners.

“The very fact that they are desperately trying to align with the BSP shows their desperation and nervousness,” he said, adding that the Congress had fought the last two elections in 2002 and 2007 alone and it would do the same this time as well. To a question about splinter groups coming together as a third front, he said it had hardly any significance. — TNS
